A SuperAger Life brings immense benefit in so many mutually supportive ways

BY: Stuart Bold

A SuperAger Life brings immense benefit in so many mutually supportive ways. These are our Top Ten for today:

  1. Become cumulatively stronger

It brings immediate benefits, to every day of your life, from the moment you begin living a SuperAger Life – at whatever age. These benefits encompass a longer, healthier (physically, mentally and emotionally), happier and more youthful life. These benefits begin from whatever age you start to live as a Super-Ager – and become cumulatively stronger.

  1. Switch On

A SuperAger Life places you in a much stronger position to reap the rewards of the future; both ‘what’s around the corner’ and what is envisaged over the next decades. The healthier, more youthful and ‘switched on’ you are now, and as you age, the better able you’ll be to access the future wonders of the science and technology of health and wellbeing.

  1. Enrich Your life now

If you are already of ‘advanced or older’ years (as currently defined and perceived), then a SuperAger Life can not only enrich your life now and help you live longer, healthier, happier and more youthfully from now – it can also help you to better address and manage any of the potential current challenges of ageing/older years

  1. A Longer Life – maybe significantly longer

The desire, from some, for the ‘holy grail’ of eternal youth’ has been around for millennia. This may not be on everyone’s radar however, there are plenty who seek greater longevity and reversal of ageing – particularly if linked with on-going good health. There are reasonable scientific and medical predictions that the first of us to reach 150 years of age are already alive. From some credible scientists, there are predictions that we are heading towards an achievable life span of multiple centuries.

  1. Increased health-span

At the moment, our health-span does not match, even closely, our increasing life-span. There is not so much incentive to live longer, potentially much longer, if we are not living with optimal health as well. At the moment, we are living far short of our achievable potential to live longer AND healthier and there is another way – the SuperAger way. It is entirely possible, whatever age you start, to improve and optimise your health in line with ageing.

  1. Slowing of the ageing process

We can slow our ageing, even, in some respects, reverse the ageing process. We can increase of the gap between our chronological (age at our date of birth) and our biological age (the age of our body, brain and mind). We can, for example:

  • Increased DHEA hormone levels (the ‘youth hormone’)
  • Slow deterioration of telomeres (the caps at the end of each strand of DNA protecting our chromosomes). The shortening of telomeres is considered a primary cause of age-related break down of our cells. We can naturally increase telomerase and even lengthen telomeres.
  • Increased Melatonin levels (the ‘sleep hormone’ – also described as one of the ‘hormones of youth’, along with DHEA).
  • Reduction of raised levels of Cortisol (the ‘stress hormone’ – highly damaging in elevated levels, including premature ageing)

  1. Improved emotional and mental health

Many of the key drivers of a SuperAger Life that lead to greater longevity, health and quality of life are intrinsically linked and bring mutual benefit for greater wellbeing, happiness, fulfilment and enjoyment of life.

In turn, greater happiness and wellbeing are drivers of longevity and health. This is another perfect example of how SuperAger Life knowledge, skills and resources are multi-faceted and provide multiple levels of mutually supportive benefit.

SuperAger knowledge, skills and techniques can lead to and support:

  • Stronger mental & emotional health
  • Better sleep
  • Reduced stress & anxiety
  • Elevated levels of endorphins (‘feel-good’ neurotransmitters)
  • Increased Serotonin levels (the ‘happy neurotransmitter’)
  • Enhanced Emotional Intelligence
  • Greater happiness & wellbeing
  • Greater life satisfaction
  • Greater emotional & physical resilience
  • Improved relationships
  • Greater self-esteem and confidence
  • Greater optimism

  1. Stronger brain health

  • Slowing of the brain’s ageing process
  • Reduction of risk factors for cognitive decline
  • Improved cognitive function – including focus, memory, attention, decision-making

  1. A fuller life

A SuperAger life is all about providing the means to live life as fully, well and wonderfully as possible, with optimum health, wellbeing, happiness and quality of life. Key elements of all of these are social and community networks (family, friends, colleagues) and positive experiences and activity. Living a SuperAger World life and accessing wide-ranging experiences, activities, social networks and a growing SuperAger World global community enables life to be lived fully and well.

  1. Future benefits

If all of the above benefits are not incredible enough, here is a brief look at some of what is predicted for the near future – all of the following are based on credible medical and scientific predictions, proof-of-principle or indeed work-in-progress.

Regenerative medicine

Regenerative medicine looks to repair the function of, or indeed replace, our body’s damaged or diseased cells and tissues – and indeed, to even do so to a much greater level of performance and function than existed before in some circumstances. This is the integration of an amazing conglomeration of the fields of tissue engineering & biomaterials, developmental cell biology (e.g. stem cells), medical technology and artificial devices (including nanotechnology), gene therapy, cellular therapeutic interventions, computer science, engineering and chemical biology.

Rejuvenation biotechnology

Minimising to a negligible level, or even resolving, the so called ‘diseases of aging’ by applying, at the levels of organs & tissues and down to a molecular level, the concepts of regenerative medicine to the multiple factors of age-related degeneration. There are some scientists who aspire to defer completely and indefinitely the pathology of age-related disease, ensuring our ability to increase longevity, in full and good health and without becoming ill through old age.

Epigenetic Reprogramming

One scientific theory is that aging is primarily due to the process of ‘epigenetic’ changes – epigenetics (‘above genetics’) concerns how and why genes are activated or remain inactive (including external and environmental factors).

Gene activity manipulation

Linked to epigenetic change, there is research into reversing some changes to the age-related activity by activating specific genes and facilitating rejuvenation.

Therapeutic interventions

There are many ‘therapeutic intervention’ drugs ‘in the pipeline’ and being researched. Some focus on enhancement of cell longevity, strength and vitality and thereby increased lifespan. Others focus on prolonged health-span and alleviation of various age-related symptoms.

Along with predictions for increased longevity into the multiple-centuries (and even to 1,000 years of age), science also predicts augmentation of our lives. With extended lifespan will come expanded ability to live life physically & mentally stronger, fitter, healthier and younger than currently achievable. We are moving from the ‘information age’ to what some are describing as the ‘augmented age’. Science, technology and medical research will enable us to augment our physical, mental and perceptual capabilities.

The predictions are stunning for what may be achievable in the foreseeable future for our bodies, our minds, our leisure, our social & community networks – and our growth and understanding of ourselves and our place in the universe.

That is just in the near foreseeable future. Imagine what could be the situation in the next 100 years. Provided humanity succeeds in avoiding destroying the planet we share with each other and all other life, and provided we start to fulfil the positive human potential we have and honour our Earth Home (the only one we have), what an utterly amazing future we could all have.

This future however needs to be accessible. So, the more we live a SuperAger World life now, the more we extend our lifespan and our health span and the more chance we each have of accessing each quantum shift in the augmented age and beyond. The more we live a SuperAger Life, the longer we get to ride the incredible roller-coaster of life and the greater the enjoyment of the ride. The more we do now to ensure we make it around that next corner, over that next hill or through that next tunnel (and the next, and the next), the greater our chances of accessing the future and all it promises.

Yes, I've been on the receiving end of some of these 😆People often say I look good for may age…I always have a little giggle to myself and think I probably would have said that as a young person as well.

I kind of think its ok for an older women to say it to another older women, but totally not OK when it comes form a young person and definitely not Ok if its coming from a man commenting on the way you look.

It’s kinda funny, but what do you think? Can you relate to any of these? I would love for you to add to my list xx
